Online safety

We understand that being safe online is very important, especially for young people. Skowt was created with online safety and privacy in mind, to meet the needs of the Scouting communities members.

tickUser authentication

Only people who know each other in the offline world can communicate using Skowt.

When you join Skowt, your account must be authorised by a Leader from the Space you want to join (e.g. your Scout Group or Guide Unit).

As an extra precaution, the Leader who authenticates your account is selected at random - so new users can never know who will be authenticating their account.

Report offensive content

With one click, any Skowt user can report a photo, comment, or post that is offensive or shouldn't be on Skowt.

Reporting an item sends notification to an adult who manages the Space it appears in, so that action can be taken.

Be vigilant!

If you have reason to believe there is something not quite right about a user or piece of content on Skowt, we encourage you to contact the Child Explotation and Online Protection Centre.

Secure data transfer

All information sent using Skowt is encrypted and secured by a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate.

Child protection partners

No website can be 100% safe for all its users.

We have teamed up with the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre to give users simple one-click routes to help and advice on keeping safe online.
